IN the summer of 1967, the Rover Company began work on the first of the seven Engineering Prototypes of its new Land Rover, the 100 inch Station Wagon. Fifty-four years later we are celebrating the introduction of the vehicle codenamed L460, the fifth-generation Range Rover. We take the opportunity to look back at the first four generations of this enduringly popular vehicle, and chart it’s inexorable rise from capable but utilitarian 4x4 to one of the most luxurious SUVs on the planet.
