I used to write about cars — I still look back wistfully at the thrill of having a Porsche or Ferrari on a road test for a week. One of the subjects all motoring correspondents delight in discussing is handling, and it is, of course, something gundog correspondents have to consider, too. In the early days of motoring, cars didn’t handle very well. I once drove a former Le Mans 6.5-litre Bentley around a race circuit in Sweden: it was a memorably frightening experience.
