The fog was rising across the vast Kentish landscape as the last of the Guns arrived. A Peugeot 206 slowly navigated the rutted gravel track to the meeting point, arriving next to a weathered Land Rover moments before our 8am start time. The emergence of the young passenger meant that the party was complete.
The early morning atmosphere had been bright; the keeper busily orchestrated his team while fathers, sons and one daughter discussed the day ahead. But when shoot chairman Colin Hemmings ushered the youngsters into a group, silence fell upon the car park. Children cautiously left their parents’ sides, awaiting their first introduction to a shoot day with bated breath.
