Dowsett left with no regrets despite Hour disappointment

Pain etched on his face and staggering back to track centre with the help of his coach Dr Michael Hutchinson and partner Chanel, Alex Dowsett cut a dejected figure last Wednesday night.

He’d fallen short in his quest to beat Victor Campenaerts’s Hour record of 55.089km by just over 500m (two laps of the track), setting a distance of 54.555km at Aguascalientes Velodrome in Mexico.

But it took only a few minutes before he picked himself up and held his head high.

He had ridden with the logos of his haemophilia charity Little Bleeders and the Haemophilia Society emblazoned across his skinsuit and his aim to raise money and awareness of the condition, which he himself has, appeared to have galvanised him.
