ne mild night in 2019, I ducked into a bar on Karangahape Rd to congratulate friends who had decamped there from the Voyager Media A wards nearby. Inside, the cream of New Zealand’s journalistic talent were absolutely slaughtered in their glad rags. Many weren’t so much tipsy as completely cross-eyed. It was a short and rather startling visit.
