‘I’ve always told stories: as a child I used to walk round my parents’ back garden, lost in my own world as I made up stories in my head. I loved creative writing at school, and I dreamt of one day writing a novel. But one thing always got in my way… imposter syndrome. Every time I tried to put the ideas in my head down on paper, I’d get about 10,000 words in and then read it back and despair. My writing seemed so cringingly amateur compared to the published books I enjoyed, and I couldn’t imagine anyone ever wanting to read what I had to say.
