Sure, there are hordes of evil seagulls to contend with, but being able to take a dip in the English Channel whenever the mood takes you is something truly great. It is pretty horrific, then, to find out that Southern Water has been dumping raw sewage into our coastal waters. Roughly 21 billion litres of raw sewage has been released along the Brighton coastline over the last 12 months - and all the council has done to challenge this is charge Southern Water with a meagre fine, despite Southern pleading guilty to 6,971 cases of unpermitted sewage discharges.
