Fire in the Heart

In Tuan Andrew Nguyen’s video The Boat (2020), a band of children explore old ruins and ritual sites, recreating the objects they find there in wood, which they then burn on the beach in their own newly invented ceremonies. Nguyen’s young characters inhabit a future world and must grapple with questions of how to revisit old, collective wounds and the harm that we have inflicted on our environment in order to reorient themselves for a new way of living.
