Spying for red giants

It’s an annual pilgrimage for some, a once-in-a-lifetime experience for others and it was a first for me. Red stag stalking annually draws much-needed visitors from around the globe to rural Scotland to partake in the traditional and sustainable management of the UK’s largest land mammal. With two days’ stalking booked on the Mamore Estate above Kinlochleven, this trip promised to be an adventure, a steep learning curve and an experience to be treasured for years to come.

Testing terrain

Mamore is part of three estates, covering 114,000 acres, that are owned and managed by Jahama Highland Estates. Regarded as some of the finest stalking ground in Scotland, the terrain can be testing and includes the infamous north face of Ben Nevis.
