Many of the earliest (and most valuable) board games in the U.S. were made by New York’s McLoughlin Brothers. The firm, which traces its roots to 1828, eventually found success as a book publishing house. In fact, McLoughlin Brothers pioneered the use of color printing techniques in children’s books.
As seen at right, the hues have not faded over time, though fortunately the fashion mores—as well as the practice of eating whole pies!—are no longer in vogue.
