SELF LOVE

It’s the day after Rebecca Taylor’s birthday and she tells Attitude she’s still recovering from a day of celebrations. “My lover took me to that slide you can go down in the Olympic Park in east London,” she laughs.

Earlier in the day, Taylor shared a snap of herself on the ArcelorMittal Orbit, manically screaming in delight as she hurtled down the world’s longest and tallest tunnel slide at speed. She comically recreates the expression as she talks to me from her home in Margate. She then compares her birthday hangover to that of Sam Fender, after the Newcastle star recently appeared on BBC Breakfast worse for wear. “I saw him on television that day and I was, like, fair enough, dude. I totally get it!”

Taylor certainly has cause to celebrate. Beyond her birthday revelries, her new album Prioritise Pleasure has earned a plethora of five-star album reviews, and her winter tour dates are close to selling out. She’s winning awards, too, having received the Attitude Music Award at the annual October event and has just been crowned the BBC Music Introducing Artist of the Year.

“I’ve been on loads more magazines than usual and I can’t help but think these really fucking sexy images have been a part of it,” Taylor laughs, referencing the cover of her new record, on which she wears thigh-high boots, a cowboy hat and a black leotard.

“I’m really proud of them because for the first time, I’m out there with my lumps and bumps, me being me, and these images are exactly how I portray myself,” she says,
