WORKING VISAS FOR NON-EU CITIZENS

Q Now that the UK has left the European Union, could you clarify the requirements for working visas?

A Non-EU citizens require a visa to work in Italy. There are several types of work permits such as salaried work visa, seasonal work visa, sets a quota for permits for (non-)seasonal workers. Quotas are specific to the originating countries. Based on the quotas, an employer who wants to hire a non-EU citizen has to apply for a document at their province’s immigration office. The authorisation () is valid for six months and is granted within 60 days. After receiving the work visa, the employee can enter Italy, and will need to apply for a residence permit within eight days to stay and work in the country legally. The permit lasts for up to two years and can be renewed. Similarly, for seasonal work visas, the employer needs to request a which allows the employee to work for up to nine months in a twelve-month period, depending on the duration of the seasonal work contract. The is issued within 20 days of the request. It is possible to convert a residence permit issued for seasonal work into a permit for salaried work, subject to available quotas.
