You were magnificent as Prince Charles in “The Crown”. How did you manage to get the part?

I’m good friends with Vanessa Kirby, the actor who played Margaret in thenear Brussels and I said no straight away. I’m a republican, and at that particular moment the royal family was of no interest to me. Three weeks later, they called and insisted on meeting me so that they could at least outline the project to me. I saw Peter Morgan, the creator of the series, and Benjamin Caron who is one of the directors, and they explained that in Season 3, they wanted to show a version of Charles that would come across as more sympathetic and, in Season 4, one that was a lot less sympathetic and almost vicious. And that was of interest to me.
