RETURN TO INNOCENCE

‘You are what you eat’. I discovered the truth of this adage on my journey to living a healthier, more holistic lifestyle. It all began with a chronic stomach ailment, caused due to, a book that celebrates Indian wisdom and wellness. It was through our extensive discussions that I learnt how to address my health issues and live an easier, happier life. It’s been three years since I incorporated certain lifestyle and dietary changes, and each day has brought with it self-discovery and revelations. I learnt of the magic within everyday life, and clever kitchen spices that can prove to be natural, holistic remedies for complaints such as water retention and bloating (cumin and caraway seeds are highly beneficial in this regard). Another wondrous little fruit is the Indian gooseberry ()—having a shot of it the first thing in the morning gives me my daily dose of Vitamin C, while boosting immunity. I adopted the ancient Ayurvedic practice of oil pulling, and it helped detox my body and make it alkaline from within. I learnt to listen to my body, and spend some time alone with myself before starting my day, which has made me more productive. One ritual I follow is sitting on the floor and eating, as it helps me digest my food better and ground myself. My greatest learning has been that there is no shortcut to feeling good…adopting these lifestyle changes might be a long and gradual process, but it is the more sustainable one. Through this journey, I have become more confident, and am at ease with my body and state of mind. I am also able to work out more intensively. I believe that everything you do in life should enable you to be more productive and feel more at peace. This process has led me to discover that I can enjoy each aspect of my life, while also striking a balance.”
