Three NGOs support food production and market access

he agricultural and agri-food sectors are benefiting from the support of a number of non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Three organizations are going all the way: Fair Trade Lebanon (FTL), Berytech, and Rene Moawad Foundation (RMF). These organizations provide training, access to local and global markets, and they help food producers obtain certifications guaranteeing the quality of their products. FTL provides its own certification, namely the Transparency, Ethics, and Quality (TEQ) certification. It also helps food producers obtain certifications from other organizations such the ISO certification in addition to the FLOCERT certification provided by Fairtrade International. RMF pays for the first certification obtained by farmers in the first year, and for 75 percent in the second year. It helps farmers obtain the Global G.A.P. certification which is key to access global markets like the EU and to meet new requirements in the GCC market.
