t seventy-five years of age, Brown is standing in his studio in Newtown amidst a flotilla of working drawings and a pile of palette splotched painting clothes, testifying to his labours. We are in the solidly Victorian building that became the School of Arts in wartime 1916. The walls are lined with Sepik carvings while a litany of handwritten quotes are stapled to the cedar door of this vast space.
