“I became involved with Spanish Arabians in the ’80s when I was 15,” says Wess Albrecht. “I met the newly imported *Sidi Brahim (Jacio x Dalia IV) at the Jack Tone Ranch – it was love at first sight. Sid was a black-grey with silver dapples, a big hip, high-set neck and a beautiful head with huge eyes. The second Spanish horse I met was Jaleas ET (*Barich De Washoe x *Jalea III), bred by BruMarBa Arabians. Jaleas ET was so extreme and beautiful, she is the foundation of my breeding program through her sons Sidsational AA (by *Sidi-Brahim) and Sasakis Notorio (by *Sasaki). When I got to see *Sasaki in person, he blew me away with his quality and beauty. My favorite cross has been the *Sidi-Brahim bloodlines with *Sasaki; they complement each other so nicely.
“The Spanish Arabian has so much to offer breeders around the world. Even though they are small in numbers, they have made such huge waves in the Arabian horse world and set new standards, especially when you consider stallions such as *El Shaklan (Shaker El Masri x *Estopa) and Magnum Psyche (Padrons Psyche x A Fancy Miracle), both out of straight Spanish mares, and Stival by *Gazal Al Shaqab and out of a *Barich De Washoe granddaughter.”
