For this reason, I am regularly amazed at the prices achieved at auctions today not for actual, living horses, but for horses that have not yet been born. Embryo auctions have become a big thing in the industry, often achieving prices that an honest breeder trying to sell a good, but less fashionably bred horse can only dream of. How did this happen?
Well, it does seem deceptively easy. Take a popular champion stallion and an impeccably bred mare and combine them for a dream pedigree, which magically translates into a dream horse. What could possibly go wrong?
