ver the past ten years, David Benjamin Sherry has been developing a project called , dedicated to taking pictures across the United States in a “quest for empathy, commonality, and understanding in my American subjects and landscapes.” He hopes to “shine light,” he says, on the diversity of the U.S. “in this very troubled time.” Sherry’s work has long (2017–18), a series featuring national monuments rendered in vivid, monochrome hues. , in contrast, spans more personal landscapes and portraits taken in black and white in order to home in on our shared humanity while reflecting “the fact that our country is crumbling beneath us.”
