When Laurie Walker passed his test back in 2003, and bought his first car: a ‘92 Mini City, it’s doubtful that he thought he’d still be using it today. But he is. In fact, it’s his daily, and has covered 185,000 miles in the past eighteen years. With its careworn exterior, Radford-esque wicker detailing, and hand-painted matt black and grey paint, it certainly stands out. So much so, a few years ago, it won ‘Rattiest Mini’ at Stanford Hall – hence why it’s garnered the name Ratner.

Laurie owns another ‘92 City, but this one’s a lot smarter. Sticking to a strict £3000 budget, including purchase, he painted the bodyshell Island Blue, contrasted this with a cream roof, and fitted ten inch steels. He did all the work himself, ending up with a very smart, retro-looking and nicely-specced show car. He also has a Chocolate Brown ‘84 City. Though, due to having too many projects, it will be up for sale soon. And there’s more.
