DIVERSIONS

WORDSWORTH by Rebecca Zhong

The Wordsworth competition is being discontinued, in part to accommodate the extended Privacy Notice we are required to run each week. Thank you to all those who have contributed over the years, particularly our many regulars.

For competition No 2142, readers were asked to write a brief film synopsis that is based on a recent news event. The winner is Terry Hobin of Auckland: Covid Cops – A road movie that pits cops against border busters. Brian and Karen, a Covid-infected Bonnie and Clyde, try to outrun the authorities. They dodge police and local whānau road blocks, rob a KFC store, steal Clarke Gayford’s fishing boat, Winston Peters’ horse and a gang member’s motorbike before crashing into an MIQ facility where Dr Ashley Bloomfield makes a citizen’s arrest. In a packed courtroom, the judge sentences them to a year of attending Destiny Church services.

It is nice to be known. I have been known to sheep. I have been known to chickens. I have been known, though often ignored, by cats. At my best, I have been known by respectable people I respected. And in my lesser moments, I’ve been known by various
