Even if – or as it became known – as the genre’s starting point, the truth is that got there first. “Precinct Assault was never part of the plan,” explains Steve. “That was me, on a weekend, playing around with the editor and realising one vs many – which is basically what the core game is – is fun, but I was more of a tactical player, a strategic player, a battlefield type player. So I wanted to see if I could pull off something in the editor that felt like two sides of the battle going to war, and you are a major player in that battle.”
