The plan had been to attend Sywell ‘Pistons & Props’ on Saturday, followed by Kop hillclimb on Sunday – until the petrol panic (and lethargy). The PUB Vincent had just enough petrol in its tank for the round trip to Sywell but the intention was to fill up, until spying the long petrol station queues. In her town only one or two have E5 anyway, which she prefers now that E10 has arrived, so no luck.
However PUB found one whilst crossing the A5 which did not even have a queue, so filled up whilst the going was good. But queuing had not been completely avoided, because on arrival at Sywell there was a long queue around the airfield approach road. This was hard on the air-cooled Rapide and on PUB’s clutch hand, but fortunately filtering was possible, even though the road was narrow, because there was little oncoming traffic. Her £5 ‘old bike bring along’ ticket (for two people, two days) was a bargain, designed to get motorbikes and riders to come.
