“ I DON’T think we credit horses enough for their intelligence, I think they know an awful lot more than we realise,” says Sarah Bulllimore. She’s talking about the fact that Corouet, her home-bred partner in securing individual bronze at the recent eventing European Championships, seemed to know he would be selected for the event long before it was confirmed.

“It sounds stupid but ‘Elfie’ knew he was going from the end of July,” says Sarah. “He’s been watching his figure. We’ve been trying to keep weight on him, telling him, ‘You can stay round, you don’t need to be slim yet even if you are going,’ and he’s been like, ‘No, my body is a temple.’ He is far too wise.”
