Flanders fields in Salford

THE SIGHT of 888,246 ceramic poppies – one for every British or Colonial life lost at the Front during the First World War – spilling out of a window and filling the moat of the Tower of London in 2014 was something that stirred the spirit and remains in the memory of all who experienced it live or on screen.

Now, after touring the country between 2014 and 2018 as two exhibitions, Poppies: Wave and Weeping Window, they are returning to the Imperial War Museum North at Salford Quays permanently – combined as a dramatic sculptural artwork in the museum’s unique architectural Air Shard.
