Elemental Auckland. Back for its second year, this midwinter festival is a really cool initiative from Auckland Unlimited, Auckland’s economic and cultural agency (essentially a branch of Auckland Council). With event categories split into eats, beats and art there is a whole host of free and ticketed events hosted throughout the super city. The line-up and more info can be found at aucklandnz.com/elementalfestival. Elemental Auckland runs from 14 July to 1 August.

2) Attend

Word Christchurch, the Garden City’s annual literary event running from and other great works) will be beaming in digitally from Melbourne, and Word is launching a new crowdfunded initiative, The Faraway Near, a pop-up bar designed to get around Covid border restrictions and bring authors here digitally from around the world. Ten groups of 10 will each have a screen at the head of their table to beam a lineup of international authors in live, to be interviewed by a Word host. More info at .
