Elemental Auckland. Back for its second year, this midwinter festival is a really cool initiative from Auckland Unlimited, Auckland’s economic and cultural agency (essentially a branch of Auckland Council). With event categories split into eats, beats and art there is a whole host of free and ticketed events hosted throughout the super city. 2) Attend

Word Christchurch, the Garden City’s annual literary event running from and other great works) will be beaming in digitally from Melbourne, and Word is launching a new crowdfunded initiative, The Faraway Near, a pop-up bar designed to get around Covid border restrictions and bring authors here digitally from around the world. Ten groups of 10 will each have a screen at the head of their table to beam a lineup of international authors in live, to be interviewed by a Word host. More info at .
