QUEENSLAND'S most iconic ultramarathon, The Blackall 100, is shaping up to be the women’s trail race to watch in Australia this year, featuring the country’s most surprising new talent and seasoned runners.
One runner who needs no introduction is Lucy Bartholomew. She is set to tackle the 100km and is looking forward to a “fierce fight on the trails” against a strong women’s line-up. Lucy will face some of Australia’s most dynamic up-and-coming female ultrarunners, who have burst onto the scene in recent years to claim top prizes at some of the nation’s toughest races.
In its eighth year, The Blackall 100, which takes its name from the ancient Blackall Range that looms over the Sunshine Coast, has earned its reputation as one of Australia’s most soulful and atmospheric trail running events. With strong ties to the native Jinibara people, not to mention the loud tradition of ringing that giant Blackall cowbell at the finish line, the event sells out fast, with new entrants vying for a ticket against those who keep coming back.
