TAPPING INTO MANA

Throughout all corners of the Pacific, there exists a central belief that we are all connected to the elements. The energy we share with every other living thing on our planet is more than a tangible feeling: it’s spiritual. It’s called mana.

When it comes to 20-year-old professional surfer Vahine Fierro, the mana she exudes in the water and when she talks about her life—surrounded by the waves—is strong. Strong, too, is Fierro’s reputation as a decorated young surfer (Tahiti’s first female World Pro Junior Surfing champion). Although she’s currently ranked 18th on the Women’s’QS, when it comes to Chopes Fierro’s ascending the ranks to become an elite in the field.

Hailing from a small Tahitian island in French Polynesia, Vahine has grown up with surf culture in her veins as well as the importance of remaining grounded and connected to home.

“Home is my favourite place on earth. I don’t think that will ever change,” she says, via a Zoom
