Michael Livingston is a professor of military and medieval history and two-time winner of the Distinguished Book Award from the International Society of Military History. He is the secretary general for the United States Commission on Military History.

The history of Britain is defined by war, with numerous conflicts proving to be significant turning points in the history of the islands. From Hastings in 1066 to World War II, all have shaped the development of the Britain we know today. Yet there is one battle whose role was just as crucial but is rarely spoken about outside of historical circles. The Battle of Brunanburh is little-known but has an air of mystery all its own.
