’ve never understood the old-fashioned idea of “putting the garden to bed for the winter” because even during the short days towards the winter solstice there is still so much pleasure from being outside gardening. Even when the weather outside the window looks grey and unappealing, getting warmly wrapped up and stepping out into the garden gives a brighter perspective. It is surprising how light the gloomiest day is once you’re outside.
