Can the design of a building change the way you live? Helen Gray believes so. Her previous property was a Victorian house – beautiful, but really unsuitable for the 21st century. “As is the way with a late-19th-century property that was designed for both the owner and the household servants, our kitchen was an uninviting space and the dining room was too grand. That meant we ate in front of the TV, which I detest,” she explains. “I wanted to live better but I couldn’t, so I was determined that our next home would be different.”
