Group on the move
Conscious of the compaction caused when collecting single big-square bales off the field, Herefordshire contractor Jack Jay decided to invest in a tool that would group them neatly together. By switching from dropping single 120x90 bales to pairs, triples or quads, his customers would have to travel far less distance with their loader or telehandler, reducing wheel marks and compaction.
But rather than opting for a generic accumulator to fit behind his New Holland BB960, Jack decided to upgrade to a neat integrated setup that Krone had recently started selling. This was four years ago, when the firm first introduced its BaleCollect system for Big Pack balers.
“A friend of mine, Dan Mallard, works at Krone and he managed to get us the first model in the UK,” he says. “It was a big investment, but I could see the need for it and was convinced that it’s a service my customers would appreciate.”
The baler at the front of the setup is a sixstring Big Pack 1290, which Stuart Linton at his local dealer Pallisers adapted to accommodate the accumulator. The task involves removing the chute, fitting some additional brackets and routing some hydraulic pipes to the rear of the machine. As a
