Patrick Cantlay was recently named the PGA Tour’s “Player of the Year” for 2021. Fair enough, even if many thought that honour might have gone to U.S. Open champion Jon Rahm.

But here’s the thing, if the vote had been labelled “most interesting player” there could only have been one winner: Bryson DeChambeau.

I first met Bryson not long after he made it onto the PGA Tour. It was at an outing in Dallas, at the Preston Trails course. Lee Trevino does a clinic there every year. David Graham is always there, as is Bruce Devlin. Back then, Bryson had just come out with a set of clubs that were all the same length. As you’d expect, everyone was making a beeline for his bag on the range. They were something like 15-degrees upright
