SILLERMAN FIRST BOOK PRIZE FOR AFRICAN POETRY

A prize of $1,000 and publication by University of Nebraska Press in conjunction with Amalion Press is given annually for a debut poetry collection by an African poet. Writers who were born in Africa, are African nationals or residents, or whose parents are African are eligible. The African Poetry Book Fund editorial board will judge. W. Y. BOYD LITERARY AWARD

A prize of $5,000 is given annually for a novel published in the previous year that is set in a period when the United States was at war. Asheville Poetry Review

WILLIAM MATTHEWS POETRY PRIZE

A prize of $1,000 and publication in Asheville Poetry Review is given annually for a single poem. The winner is also invited to give a reading at Malaprop’s Bookstore in Asheville, North Carolina. Marilyn Nelson will judge. Using only the online submission system, submit up to three poems of any length with a $20 entry fee by January 15, 2022. All entries are considered for publication. SISKIYOU PRIZE FOR NEW ENVIRONMENTAL LITERATURE

A prize of $1,000 is given biennially for an unpublished or published book of fiction or creative nonfiction that focuses on the environment, animal protection, ecology, or wildlife. The winner also receives a two-week residency at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, located on the central Oregon coast. Deb Olin Unferth will judge. All unpublished entries are considered for publication. Using only the online submission system, submit a story or essay collection, novel, or memoir of 40,000 to 90,000 words with a $25 entry fee by December 31. RISING WRITER PRIZE IN POETRY

A prize of $1,000 and publication by Autumn House Press is given biennially for a debut poetry collection. The winner will also receive a $500 grant for travel and book promotion. Donika Kelly will judge. Submit a poetry manuscript of 50 to 80 pages with a $25 entry fee by November 30. The submission fee may be waived in cases of financial need.
