THE best plant nurseries have the unmistakable signature of the owner in their selection. The Place for Plants, at East Bergholt in Suffolk, has Rupert Eley’s character stamped firmly into every corner. The nursery is attached to his family’s land, with an arboretum laid out by his great-grandfather. Mr Eley was born in the house next door and, as he grew older, used to wander over to grow giant pumpkins with his grandparents.
