A fancy for France

It had been a while since we last toured in France and I’d forgotten how vast the country is, as well as how easy it is to get around in a motorhome or campervan. After stopping overnight on an aire just south of Reims, we arrived in Annecy for our first lake and the first campsite of our trip.

Unfortunately, the site we had earmarked was full. This wasn’t a problem; with so many other sites around the lake to choose from, we soon found another – Camping La Nublière – that had space. As fortune would have it, we also found that a pitch had become available looking over the lake.

Lac d’Annecy is heaven for watersports enthusiasts and those who wish that they had wings. We spent a very sunny afternoon watching the paragliders land in the field next to our campsite, having jumped off the nearby mountain. I wanted to sign up for a paraglider flight but, bearing in mind that I often fall off my bike, sense prevailed!

There is a cycle path around the lake, so we were going to ride the 16km (10 miles) to Annecy town. However, as the weather was so hot, we couldn’t leave the dogs in our ’van. Instead, we caught the ferry
