Best breeding tactics and what makes good housing
WHEN it comes to closed-ringing my birds, I use coloured aluminium rings size N or P. (The colour for 2021 is violet.) And it seems that for some reason the mutations have a larger leg girth, which means they need the P ring. I can quickly spot the current-year-bred birds.
The point of ringing, of course, is that it facilitates good record-keeping and also confers an advantage because I never want to pair related stock together. With all my breeding, I am trying to ensure that the stock is improved. Only top-quality breeding stock is used and I carefully observe the young that are bred, so as to select the best birds to carry forward to the next time that I pair my birds when they are two years old.
