HOW TO… BUILD A HARBOUR SCENE

The Edge Hey & Strines Railway is a large layout that I started four years ago with my grandchildren. The existing layout was expanded in 2020, and the design of a new section on my layout allowed me to add a lake. This area has a beach and a campsite, served by a small railway station. I added a river that runs off from the lake and winds around Strines Hamlet (BRM, August 2021) and behind Strines Village, flowing out to the Harbour.

I enjoy creating model water on a layout, and the lake, river and harbour gave me the opportunity to hone my skills in creating realistic-looking depth to, and movement on, the water within a scenic location.

There are three railway bridges and three road bridges that cross this river and there is a boat hire place and fishermen on the bank. There is plenty going on!

I had already designed and created the area and formed the landscape
