The posters were big and bold and prominently displayed on the wall opposite the meat counter at John’s American Store in Philadelphia. One pictured Uncle Sam holding his index finger in front of his lips in the universal signal for silence, and the other showed the black silhouette of a battleship sinking into the water of a distant sea. Both posters featured the slogan “A Slip.”
