Behind the Bank Note with Robert J Bauman

Q. How long have you been a bank note collector?

I began collecting paper money in 1980 when I joined Chem Systems, an international consulting company. I had responsibility for the plastics business practice for the Americas and Asia. I traveled to Latin America and Asia three or four times per year. My first trip to Argentina was in the early 1980s. The U.S. dollar was preferred by merchants instead of the Argentinian currency. As a result, I was able to purchase a large number of bank notes from Argentina as well as from neighboring countries at very good prices because I was able to pay in U.S. dollars. Thus, began my focus on the bank notes from Argentina. When I retired in 2008, I stopped collecting world notes
