Why buy a single barrel?
Everybody is looking for an angle. What can I get that nobody else is interested in yet? Where is there value? Sometimes this is purely a practical matter. On a limited budget there may be no chance to buy or collect the most desirable guns and you have to look elsewhere. Many of these once-neglected avenues have now been fully explored. Hammerguns were once very unfashionable but there has been a strong resurgence in recent years, for example.
However, there are still niches that most have little interest in; pinfires don’t make anything like centrefire hammerguns on a like-for-like basis and the best boxlocks are much cheaper to collect than Best sidelocks.
Perhaps the least venerated section of the market today is the single-barrel sporting gun. We are so used to thinking that serious shotguns have two barrels
