The Leathersellers’ Company rewards DMU students for sustainable designs
The historic British livery company has awarded prestigious prizes to students from De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) for designs that use leather in innovative and sustainable ways. The Leathersellers’ Company was founded by royal charter in 1444 to control the sale of leather in London and is now devoted to supporting charity and education around the British leather trade.
Head judge Alistair Tusting, said: “DMU students have once again risen to the challenge, showing their creative skills in the use of leather across many different disciplines. In view of the real difficulties in running the awards during the Covid-19 pandemic, I’d like to thank the team at DMU, along with the students, for their enthusiasm in making this such a success for the university and The Leathersellers’ Company.”
The company awarded 18 prizes totaling £5,000, encouraging students to showcase “creative and technologically enhanced uses of leather” within their designs.
Contour Fashion student Ellie Jones was awarded first prize.
