SET IN STONE
A remote part of the Yorkshire Dales amid the rugged Pennine landscape of dry stone walls, heather-clad moors and fields grazed by hardy sheep is an unlikely place to come across a 20th-century Arts & Crafts garden. Yet in a small valley, tucked away from the nearby tourist hotspot of Wharfedale, is Parcevall Hall, a hidden gem that was created by one of Britain’s forgotten horticulturists, Sir William Milner.
The hall was a derelict 16th-century farmhouse when Sir William purchased it along with its surrounding 300 acres in 1927.
