• How much you spend on a stand mixer depends on whether you’re buying with a long-term view. Basic models can be picked up for £50, but for one that will last, budget for at least £100. Beyond £150, you’ll mainly be paying for colour choices, styling, extra features or accessories. More expensive mixers tend to have a sturdier build.

• Most models come with three tools: a balloon whisk for whipping cream, eggs and light mixtures; a dough hook for kneading bread; and a beater for batters, biscuit dough and general
