That’s it then, yeah? The end of the internal combustion engine is nigh? The world’s governments certainly seem to think so. Target dates for ceasing sales of new petrol and diesel cars vary by country, but future manufacturing of internal combustion engines for automotive applications beyond 2040 (or even 2030) seems very unsure indeed. In line with this seismic change, many car makers have publicised their roadmap to a fully electric product line-up. As a matter of fact, Porsche expects eighty percent of the cars it sells to be all-electric by 2030, which seems entirely possible given that of all the Porsches sold in Europe last year, thirty percent were electrified.
The word is important here - not only does it cover purely electric vehicles, such as the Taycan, it also includes plug-in hybrid vehicles. And, while Porsche has additional all-electric models on the way (we can’t wait to test the charged-up Macan), it also has plans to gently introduce electrification to its range of sports cars (well, those not currently plugged into
