FILTERS EVERY PHOTOGRAPHER SHOULD HAVE IN THEIR CAMERA BAG
What is a filter, and what does a filter do?
Webster’s Dictionary defines “filter” as… just kidding, you know there’s no way I’m going to pull out that tired essay opening cliché on you, dear reader. However, since we’ll be talking about filters today, it got me thinking about the different kinds of filters we use in our lives.
Generally, a filter is an object or technique that you use to separate one thing from another. We use coffee filters to keep the grounds out of our life-giving liquid. We use air and water filters to keep dust, debris, and gunk out of the air we breathe and the water we drink. And we use mental filters to block out our noisy children when they’re fighting or being annoying. In other words, we use filters to improve something by removing part of it.
However, it occurred to me that photography filters are different in that they improve photography by adding something to our photos. Now, I’m sure that the naysayers out there will
