Dedicated follower of fashion
After talking with Roger K Burton, the owner / designer of this magnificent ’40 Ford coupe, I’m left feeling a little, well, under powered. In his early 70s now, Roger has, and continues to have, what you might call a rather colourful life.
Born into a farming environment in rural Leicestershire, he left school at 15 (“Hated it, didn’t like authority, all that stuff”) and went to work on a neighbouring farm for £4 a week.
After passing his driving test in 1965, he bought his first car, a ’48 Standard, for a week’s wages. Soon after, he read an article in a local Leicester bugle about cars that would be doing 100mph on an old air strip. “So I got in the old banger and drove there. Of course it was Santa Pod, the first ever meeting held there in ’66, and I’ve been a massive fan of drag racing ever since,” he recalls with glee.
