VEN AS the wiper blade tries to coil itself around the arm like a cat at a pair of legs, the now flicked-back wiper arm crashes backward and forwards in an attempt to rid itself of this broken part in its death throes. Startled, and in my hastened lurch for the wiper stalk to stop the perpetrator of this peace-shattering screech from etching an arch in the windshield, I make it worse, turning on double speed.
