IN HIS heyday he was the prince of percussion, the baron of beats. Energy was his middle name and he pounded out hit after thumping hit. But it was a very different Phil Collins who took to a stage in Birmingham in the UK for the opening concert of Genesis’ farewell tour recently.
Yes, the 70-year-old sang all the old favourites – I Can’t Dance, Land of Confusion, Invisible Touch – but this time he was seated throughout, his drawn face projected onto the giant screen behind him.
