Sowing the seeds

Hosted by Plymouth Youth Sailing (PYS) in association with the Mount Batten Watersports and Activity, with racing in the natural amphitheatre of Plymouth Sound ideal for both sailors and spectators against the iconic background of the city with its lighthouse on The Hoe, the scene was set for a memorable week of sailing and socials, writes Paula Irish.

The annual National Youth Regatta is the highlight of the National School Sailing Association's calendar and following the postponement of last year’s event, the 2021 edition proved memorable for all involved.

Open to young people from across the UK aged 19 and under, ranging from rookies to top level racers, unlike other regattas everyone has to enter as part of a team. This year’s regatta attracted 17 teams – including five new ones taking part for the first time – bringing with them a total of 240 sailors and 207 boats across 17 classes.
